I am an Assistant Professor at the School of Government at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. I received my Ph.D. in Agricultural & Applied Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My research interests include Economic Development, Labor Markets, Economics of Education, and Violence and Citizen Security. I am interested in exploring how institutions and public policies affect schooling and labor market decisions at all ages, understanding and improving the school-to-work transition for young workers, reducing gender gaps in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and employment, and studying the causes and consequences of violence on individual and household outcomes. Most of my work is empirical and focuses on developing countries, mainly in Latin America.
