I am an Associate Professor at the School of Economics, Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. I am also a member of EGAP and a Faculty Affiliate at the Care and Protection of Children Learning Network (CPC). My research lies in the field of Development Economics and focuses on two topics: First and foremost, I'm interested in the analysis of violence and forced displacement and in understanding whether they can thrust victims into poverty through economic, psychological, and behavioral channels. Second, I'm also interested in the relationship between aspirations, poverty, and socioeconomic mobility. Since 2013, I have been leading the implementation and evaluation of Semillas de Apego, a group-based psychosocial intervention for primary caregivers in communities exposed to violence in Colombia. The program aims to promote maternal mental health and healthy child-parent emotional bonds as a pathway for a proper development among children exposed to violence. In doing so, we aim to help children reach their full potential amid traumatic and adverse environments. Between 2014 and 2015, we developed a curriculum and tested it in a small pilot study. Currently, we are conducting an RCT of the intervention.
