In this chapter, we study the relevance and impact of transnational diaspora in technology-driven ventures in Bulgaria. We argue that the Bulgarian transnational diaspora has played an essential role in the birth of the nascent entrepreneurial ecosystem (EE), magnifying the effect of advantageous local factors such as low relative wages, available finance and long-standing tradition in STEM education and IT-related expertise. The ties provided by the Bulgarian diaspora depict networks of information and knowledge sharing, pathways for knowledge spillovers, connections of social capital, and relations of investment. The resources that come from geographically distant regions and are embodied by the Bulgarian diaspora create competitive advantages for the local EE that the national or regional context cannot create with the resources available within their narrow geographical limits and persistent institutional constraints of the country.
